SABRE PAINTINGS
Some are in "thumbnail format" click to enlarge.

Here is a painting that I received from my wife for my 50th anniversary and would like to share with your viewers:

Two Canadair Sabres Mk5 from the OTU at RCAF Station Chatam beat-up an ice fishing camp.
This painting done by Don Connolly won second prize, during the CAAA's convention, Montreal, Sept 2000.
From Robert St-Pierre collection.

Hoping your viewer can enjoy it as much as I do.
Cheers, Robert St-Pierre

I served in the RCAF from 1952-1963 and resigned as a Corporal GCA controller. I now hold a commercial pilot licence with multi - instrument -and seaplane ratings. I flew Harvards with CHAA where I got to know the late Lou Hill who commanded 441 Sqn at Marville when I was stationed there. Lou was a great guy and I am glad I got to know him. I am now a retired Metro Toronto Police detective and I live in Lagoon City, Ontario. My interest in aviation and in particular the RCAF/CAF has never waned. I have a web page hobby/business at durnanavart.com displaying my paintings of military, civil and cartoons with an aviation theme.

I wonder if you might be interested in posting the attached on your "Paintings" page - it should evoke good memories for the Air Div guys who were successful at the Guynemer Trophy Shoot at Cazaux in 1960. (Team Captain was Dick Spencer 430 Sqn, and I recollect the top shooter was McMullen of 427 Sqn). The painting, which I've called "Sharpshooters", represents the team mounting up at Cazaux for one of their operational shoots.  Incidentally, I was Captain of the Runner Up team at that event from RAF Germany flying Hawker Hunters (and for interest only I've added a painting of that team also).  I can consider commission work if anyone is interested - email contact is rdcstone@msn.com
Regards, Chris Stone (Air Cdre, RAF Retd)

"Golden Hawks" The Sabre shown in the foreground, #23651 GoldHawk.JPG (38434 bytes) is currently displayed at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton. There were three fatalities in Sabres flown by the Golden Hawks. F/L G.J. Kerr was killed in 1959 when a Piper Tripacer hit him in mid air in the circuit at Calgary. F/L L.M. "Sam" Eisler was killed in 1959 while recovering from a loop at 5,500 feet at Chatham and F/O Jim McCann on 22 Feb 1961 during a formation practice cin a collision with left wing Lloyd Hubbard. This painting is dedicated to them and the other members of the Golden Hawks who risked their lives to thrill those of us on the ground.

F86_France.JPG (31982 bytes)"Swords of NATO This painting was done at the request of Archie Gill who was organizing a reunion of 2 Fighter Wing personnel. Archie's wife Bernice came up with the name of the painting.   It is a warm summer evening just before sunset and there is lots of activity. Outside the number 2 hangar, the 421 Squadron flagship is being towed by a Mercedes Benz Unimog vehicle to the flight line while a 430 squadron Sword is being serviced inside. The control tower has just given landing clearance to a flight of CF-100's.
